I’m not sure I can think of a more relaxing way to spend ninety minutes on a vacation than a good massage session. For me a vacation is meant to be spent chilling out and finding my zen. Now granted some trips I spend the entire trip sightseeing, but some trips you just want to rest and relax and rejuvenate. Nothing relaxes me more than someone rubbing my feet in a zen atmosphere.
There are literally dozens of massage places in South Florida. The hard part was in deciding which one was the right one for the two of us together. I found just such an experience on a recent trip to South Florida.
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a way of massaging used to both relieve tension and treat a whole host of illnesses. This style of massage is based on the theory that there are reflex points on the feet, hands, and head linked to all parts of a person’s body. You can find it in many spas and salons. I have gone for reflexology in many cities around the world.
Where should you go?
My husband and I have found the best place for this relaxing service in South Florida. South Florida is a frequent travel destination for us. With sun and sand and salty breezes, what is not to like? We are lucky to have a small condo that we use for vacations there. It is the spot we travel to the most and is the starting point to get around the rest of Sunshine State.
We have tried a number of massage places in the area but one stands out from the rest. Soles Foot Lounge and Spa is an amazing place for a foot rub. This spot was found by accident the first time. It was a very happy accident.
Greg and I happened to be eating lunch in a Mexican Eatery in the same strip mall. We saw the sign for Soles Foot Lounge and were intrigued. I called up to try and get us in and found out as they were booked up for the remainder of that first day. This forced us to book for the following day, but I took that as a good sign.
We showed up the next day 10 minutes early as instructed on the phone and as we were instructed to choose the salts that we would soak our feet in. I knew I was in the right place.
I chose a rose petal and my husband went with a green tea. The foot soaking salts change on a regular basis so don’t count there having these soaks when you go. They may have them or they may have other scents like Chinese herbs and Himalayan pink salts.
The lounge has rest rooms and I hit them before my experience started. Then our 90 minutes of bliss began. They bring you into a dimly lit room playing calming music and then the relaxation begins.
The experience starts with a relaxing foot soak and shoulder rub. Choose from strong hands or a more relaxing style. It is so relaxing. After your soak and shoulders they turn you around to lounge on a barcalounger. Eyes covered, feet up and a toasty warm blanket wraps you in comfort. This is when the reflexology actually begins. Pressure points on your feet are poked and prodded and generally manipulated. All this brings on a sense of zen and relaxation. I’m not going to lie, occasionally I fall into blissful sleep.
Your therapist works the different parts of your feet and hands. They check with you about the pressure but generally let you relax. Although there are other people around you, I never even notice them.
What to Wear?
I generally wear shorts and a loose top. On those colder Florida winter days, I wear loose sweats. The main point is for the therapist to be able to get to your feet and legs easily. It is South Florida after all. I try and remember not to wear my jewelry or watch, but they have tables next to you to put your stuff on if you bring them. I also usually bring a clip for my hair, so they can get to my neck.
You can get treatments that last anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. You can add a relaxing face massage or even hot stones. We almost always go the full ninety minutes unless they don’t have time for us. I originally thought I would be bored out of my mind, but the relaxing music, calming and skillful therapist and warm blanket all lead to total relaxation.
They use lotion, so I usually shower before going to lay in the sun. I don’t like to burn. Every time I go, I can’t help but dream of my next appointment. This is a great way to spend a rainy day, or just relax after a tiring week. The effects of this last well after the treatment. Spend the time and money on yourself. No vacation for me is the same without a massage. You are totally worth it.
